Scout Digital Language Refresh

The challenge

Scout Digital is a full-service creative agency that does everything from branding to web design. They needed to communicate the full range of what they do in a way that was easy for clients to understand.

My role

Working with the rest of the marketing team, I developed a voice and tone guide, refreshed the language across their website, and wrote marketing resources like blog posts and email campaigns to spread the word about their services.

Voice and tone guide

Scout’s not afraid to make a pun, but they also know their stuff. I helped them define a consistent voice and tone, balancing the playfulness of their brand with the expertise of their content.

A header that says, "The Big Picture" above body copy that says, "We mix design and data to build innovative digital experiences that help brands grow."

Website copy refresh

Using their new voice and tone guide, I conducted an audit of their website and refreshed the language to clearly explain all that they have to offer – from branding and marketing to web and product development.

Glossary of terms

To translate marketing and design jargon into human language and make sure everyone – Scout team members and clients alike – were on the same page about deliverables and services, I wrote an A-Z glossary of marketing and UX design terms. And I did it all in Scout’s playful voice and tone.

An example from the glossary. The heading says, "Wireframe." The body copy says, "Ever written an outline for an essay at school? A wireframe is a visual outline for a web page. No color, no detail, no distractions" and more.
An excerpt from a blog. It says, "By selling social, you can: Leverage those impulse buys. Becky wants her "Live, laugh, love" sign, and she wants it now. Target the people who want what you're selling. If you've done your research..." and so on.

Marketing materials to educate and engage

From blog posts about selling on social media to email campaigns about digital marketing, I worked with the other members of the marketing team to write helpful content that would get our target audience excited about working with Scout.

  • "Krista was instrumental in developing the branded voice-over at Scout Digital. Her ability to challenge, clarify, and dig deeper was exactly what we needed for our marketing team."
